How to Keep Calm in the DM Season

  • How to Keep Calm in the DM Season

It’s DM season and people are constantly asking how you are doing, and without even thinking your answer is always “I’m crazy busy”. It’s natural to be caught up in all the work you have to do before your DM but being too stressed out to appreciate the amazing event you are planning is a major tragedy. Here’s how to keep calm during DM season:

You’ve got a really big team – Go ahead and utilize them! Never take on more than you can handle. It’s important to delegate tasks from the beginning and never be afraid to ask for help.

Take one task at a time– Your to-do list will never end. There will always be one more thing to check off before your Dance Marathon. Instead of being overwhelmed by attempting to accomplish every goal at once, do one thing at a time. Immerse yourself 100% into completing even the most trivial of tasks and you will see that you are not only working through your to-do list faster but also with better outcomes.

Embrace your obstacles– As Elsa from Frozen would say, just “Let It Go”. No event is going to come without some setbacks. You can wallow in pity at the fact your T-shirts came in youth sizes instead of adult or you can take a positive spin and own the fact that you’ll be the first Dance Marathon with crop tops! Keeping a positive outlook on obstacles that come up is the key to success!

Take care of YOU– If you are not taking care of yourself, you will be ineffective as a leader. Staying up all night, eating fast food, and staring at a computer all day will run you into the ground and fast. Listen to what your body is telling you. Take time to recharge your batteries, go for a walk outside and take time throughout your day to just breathe and reconnect with yourself.

Be Grateful– Right before bedtime is when the most anxiety and stress kicks in. Instead of counting sheep, you are counting your incomplete tasks. Use this downtime to write down three things you are grateful for every single night. This simple exercise can change your entire perspective.

Remember, Keep Calm and Dance Marathon!
