This weekend, students at Indiana University are standing, dancing, and celebrating the work they’ve done to raise funds and awareness for Riley Hospital for Children. Indiana University Dance Marathon is a 36-hour event that kicked off on Friday night. Students will be on their feet until the grand fundraising total is revealed on Sunday morning. IUDM is already off to a great start and you can follow along on the Live Stream HERE. See below for a recap of the first 12 hours!
The IUDM committee members formed tunnels for all of the Miracle families and dancers to run through to get the night started. They also played a video to recap their year of events on campus, introduced the Executive Council, and the Morale committee performed the line dance for the first time. Check out this Facebook Live video from the Opening Ceremonies:
Riley Kid Talent Show:
One of the greatest traditions of IUDM is the Riley Kid Talent Show, where patients treated at the hospital have the opportunity to perform their talents. This year, the first half of the talent show featured a number of kids including…
Oliver, who lost his sight two years ago, solving a Rubik’s Cube:
Kennedy performing a cheerleading routine with her Riley Buddies:
History & Inspiration:
When you’re celebrating your 26th year, you’ve got some pretty great history to share! To remind their dancers of how far they’ve come since their inaugural event in 1991, IUDM has proudly displays their history in their event venue.
Dancers can step into the Inspiration Booth to see photos and read stories about patients from the hospital. They can also write the names of people who inspire them to dance and fundraise on stars to hang up in the booth.
Can you believe that IUDM’s inaugural event raised $10,900 and now, 26 years later, they’ll be raising close to $4 million #ForTheKids?
The first theme hour of the weekend was “Skype Interview.” Because business on top and pajamas on bottom is totally the move.
Dancers had the option of participating in a 3-v-3 basketball tournament. #ballinForTheKids
Icebreakers was on site with a Photo Booth for dancers to capture their #BreakThrough moments.
The Riley Family corner is a great spot for the Miracle Kids and families to get relax and spend time with each other during the Dance Marathon.
