Each month, we’ll be featuring a variety of our favorite links with anything from Miracle kid stories to program best practices and highlights to whatever inspires us!
Here’s a few things that have caught our attention this month:
INSPIRATION: Zion Harvey, the first ever recipient of a double hand transplant, talks to Today about how life has changed since his surgery at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
ART FOR A CAUSE: Our 2015-2016 Champion from Missouri, Yszabehl, has been using her incredible artistic talents to give back to her hospital, where she’s received nine facial reconstruction surgeries, by selling her artwork for donations.
APP-SOLUTELY AWESOME: Earlier this month, UGA Miracle debuted a new app where participants can get updates about upcoming events, read Miracle kid stories, and get fundraising tips and resources. While every program may not be able to have their own app, think about what channels you can share this same information through. Does your University have an app or website you could add information to? What other apps do students on your campus use and how can you talk about your program on them?
BEAUTIFUL SCARS: Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta released a series of photos for a campaign where they asked kids to to tell them about their scars in their own words.
SKYDIVING FOR KIDS: Indiana University Dance Marathon students went skydiving with teddy bears for kids at Riley Hospital for Children.
THE MOVEMENT: KSU Miracle at Kennesaw State University released an amazing video to announce their rebrand and energize their campus for the year ahead.
HEART OF PURPLE & GOLD: College Game Day shared a story about a family of Auburn fans whose son needed a heart transplant and the family of LSU fans who kept their son’s legacy alive.
DM IS LIVE: Aztec Dance Marathon at San Diego State University has been utilizing Facebook Live throughout the past few months to share some live updates including when they met John Lauck, CEO of CMN Hospitals, at DMLC, a fundraising challenge announcement from their retreat, and an update before one of their fall events on campus.
MAKE TODAY YOUR ZERO HOUR: As stated in a “Letter to Dance Marathon” from Daniel Vorwerk, Executive Co-Director at University of Northern Iowa Dance Marathon, “Everybody has a zero hour, a defining moment where everything changes.” Our Miracle kids don’t get to choose their zero hour, but we do.
